Whilе it hаs bеcomе аlmost а plеonаstic clichе to dеscribе Jаmеs Lаngston Hughеs аs а poеtic gеnius of rаrity, thе аrtist’s еquаl vеrsаtility аs а plаywright hаs yеt to bе fully rеcognizеd. And it is this sorry stаtе of аffаirs which Hofstrа Univеrsity scholаr Josеph McLаrеn sееks to rеmеdy in his highly commеndаblе trеаtisе titlеd “Lаngston Hughеs: Folk Drаmаtist in thе Protеst Trаdition, 1921-1943″ (Grееnwood Prеss).
Consеquеntly, McLаrеn еchoеs Hughеsiаn scholаr Arnold Rаmpеrsаd, by poignаntly noting thаt hаd thеir subjеct nеvеr pеnnеd еvеn а singlе poеm throughout his glowing litеrаry cаrееr, Hughеs’ plаys аlonе could hаvе sеcurеd thе immortаlizеd littеrаtеur аn еnviаblе plаcе in Africаn-Amеricаn litеrаry history. It is to thе prеcеding еffеct thаt McLаrеn аdds, quitе undеrstаtеdly, thаt “In mаny rеspеcts, Hughеs wаs rеsponsiblе for crеаting thе gospеl-plаy form, which bеcаmе incrеаsingly populаr in thе 1970s аnd ’80s,” аlso furthеr noting thаt his subjеct cаn indubitаbly bе sееn аs onе of thе guiding lights of Africаn-Amеricаn thеаtеr.
Whilе Hughеs’ most thеаtricаlly productivе pеriod is dеtеrminеd to bе thе 1930s, McLаrеn аlso obsеrvеs thаt pеrhаps thе Hаrlеm Rеnаissаncе poеt-lаurеаtе’s most sociаlly conscious plаy is “Scottsboro Limitеd,” а plаy crаftеd аround thе cеlеbrаtеd Scottsboro cаsе of Mаrch 1931. Engaging the drug

Engaging the drug is one big mistake to be a drug addict. long struggle with drug addiction started naively in my high school when I had the first taste of alcohol.
trying to impress my friends with how well I could handle alcohol at such tender age.
in a party and drinks of all kinds were in plenty.
It was fun, and within minutes I went for my own bottle.
At the end of the party, I had already emptied three bottles of alcohol.
My friends eventually introduced me to amphetamines at almost the same period in school. linking the stuff and every other minutes we went for a break, we would rush to a secluded building just within the school compound to sniff the stuff. No on could detect us because we were very discrete.
aware that drugs wee prohibited in school and anymore caught would be expelled.
I was so carried away y the peer group that I did not realize my class-performance was dropping. One day I was summoned by the class-teacher to explain the drastic change in my performance. The teacher threatened to call my parents to discuss the matter but I promised him that everything was going to be okay.
The drugs were starting to make effect on me because I started loosing sleep and appetite.-skip launch without feeling hunger. lie in my bed for hours without sleep
Amphetamine is an expensive drug and was rarely available and soon my pocket money was almost finished.
wrote a letter to my dad explaining that we had an educational tour-send the money.
When school closed for holidays-Luckily my mother was to fly out of the country for quite sometimes. He hardly stayed at home.-left with my only younger sister who to me, was so naive about drug.
Money at the moment was not a problem because I often sneaked to my parent’s bedroom and open their cabinet.
One night my parents came home late from an overnight trip to find me dosing on the sofa at the sitting room. I had hardly finished sniffing a piece of pot that I had exchanged with my fathers old radio-cassette that was no longer in use. I cunningly managed to run into my bedroom without them detecting any foul play.

The role of friends in Billy Letts’ novel “Where the heart is”

The friendships one makes play a crucial part in defining who one is and helping one through their lives. Many times friends are the lifeline when life throws obstacles that appear overwhelming and they are the ones who know how to share the moments of joy untainted by jealousy or envy. As one grows up and leaves home the friends one makes become a second family, giving strength when needed and offering laughter unconditionally. In the novel “Where the Heart Is” by Billie Letts the theme of friendship is explored in the life of the protagonist, Novalee Nation. The story opens with Novalee being abandoned by her boyfriend at a Wal-Mart parking lot far from Novalee’s home. Pregnant, Novalee is forced to rely on the kindness of strangers who help her unconditionally, teaching her the value of friendship and how friends can become the family one seeks when their real family has abandoned them.
One of the first friendships Novalee makes is with Sister Husband, a humble woman who is in charge of the town’s “Welcome Wagon,” a committee of one dedicated to welcoming new people into the community. Sister Husband seems eccentric but her heart is kind and Novalee realizes that Sister Husband asks nothing of her and expects nothing of her albeit her generosity and open heart. Sister Husband welcomes Novalee into her own home and Novalee initially does not comprehend such unwarranted kindness for a stranger. From Sister Husband Novalee learns that everyone can be a friend and that the barriers we erect against strangers are only as real as one wants them to be and it is just as easy to label someone as their friend. As a mother-figure to the seventeen year old Novalee, Sister Husband radiates compassion and becomes Novalee’s first friend in Sequoyah, Oklahoma, showing her that friendship can take the place of the real family one has left behind.
Novalee also meets Moses Whitecotton during her stay at Wal-Mart. Moses is a photographer who offers Novalee advice on naming her expected child. He tells her that she should name her child a name “that will mean something” and be able to “withstand a lot of bad times.” He also gives Novalee a photoalbum and offers to take a photo of her baby when it is born. Moses Whitecotton plays the role of a father-figure to Novalee. He gives her fatherly advice from his years of experience and gives her the album, a symbol for the holding of memories that a paternal figure holds.

Co-Operative advertising

Cooperative (co-op) advertising is an agreed-on distributing of particular advertising charges or other promotional charges amidst manufacturers and retailers or analogous groups. Co-op is a placement beneficial to both manufacturers and their enterprise partners and a very good way to elaborate advertising and advancement dollars. Co-op can continue far after the customary publish and announced media; in detail, numerous manufacturers now permit Internet advertising under the guidelines of their co-op advertising programs. The register of suitable newspapers extends to augment, varies by constructor, and will be reimbursed supplied it is acquiesced on and particular inside the manufacturer’s plan. (Madden, 2003)
What a Promotional Advertising Program Should Specify
• Who pays? How much or what per hundred of the cost of the advertising the retailer and the constructor each pay? Written programs should apparently identify he periods and rates for reimbursement. • How co-op accrues. Accrual identifies what items or services request to the allowance or allowance that is suggested by the constructor for the advertising, how that allowance is very resolute, and over what time span of time. By regulation, the accrual should be proportional for all like outlets of participants, despite of dimensions or volume. For example, manufacturers may not give retailers 5 per hundred of sales for a 100-unit buy and 10 per hundred for a bigger capacity buy, thereby wrongly paying the outlets. The degree of co-op should be the identical for every retailer, whereas it can disagree or be missing for wholesalers. Co-op may furthermore be regionalized or else restricted as long as it is accessible to competing users. (Madden, 2003)
• What will be promoted? This need not aligned how co-op is accrued. Often, all of the co-op acquired is aimed at on one or a couple of promotional leaders.
• When to promote. In designing your co-op advertising, address any nationwide publicity crusades arranged by the manufacturer. Agree upon designated days, times of the year, or tie-in events and hold in brain the slash off designated day for utilizing the present year’s co-op accrual dollars. In identifying designated days, address such possibilities as utilizing unspent Christmas co-op for January sales.
• Where and how to promote. National associations are inclined to favor title media. However, “shoppers,” “penny-savers,” and alike newspapers may be a retailer’s best buy. Stay flexible. By regulation, not only should co-op be proportional, it should furthermore be functionally available. That is, it may not be restricted to what only the biggest accruals can buy. (Block, 2000)

Sustainable development

Any business dealings of a company becomes ultra vires and enforceable whether ratified by the board of directors. The questions that comes to mind is whether sustainable development can be ultra vires transactions? What is sustainable development? To begin with one need to understand what sustainable development is. “Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987). Sustainability supporting activities is one of the means to achieve the goal of sustainable development. Sustainability developments activities is one way of supporting company’s economic, environmental and social performance to its stakeholders such as communities, customers, employees, regulators as well as shareholders. Slavery in post-revolutionary America

The dominance of the slave trade in Colonial America has set the foundation for a nation where racism is a profound truth and a harsh reality. The injustices carried by African Americans because of slavery and the power structure it utilized was acknowledged by men of authority throughout the decades and is still felt in this modern day.
Frederick Douglass, a leading abolitionist during the decade preceding the Civil War. In one of his remembered speeches he addresses what Independence Day means to the slave and states that the holiday is meaningless to one who is in captivity. Although he was making the point for freedom for slaves and calling for an end to the institution of slavery, Douglass voiced some of the first sentiments of racial divide and acknowledged the acceptability for slaves to act upon anti-American sentiments, such as disregarding Independence Day.
The political debates between President Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas during the years preceding the election of 1860 also highlighted the magnitude of race in this nation and brought to public the real sentiments of many Americans during the period. The debates shaped the minds of many Americans and set the precedent for racial segregation, discrimination and injustices present due solely to skin color.
But race in America was not limited between black slaves the white colonist. Indeed the separation of race was present with the Native Indians as made clear by Thomas Jefferson in his letter to Governor William H. Harrison. Jefferson highlights the way in which he feels Indians should be separately dealt with, again drawing clear lines for racism in America, lines not limited to blacks, but to anyone not of white, European decent. Furthermore, in his “Notes on the State of Virginia,” Jefferson refers to Indians as savages, establishing their boundaries and acknowledging the acceptability for racism with regard to Indians in America.
These first leading figures in American history set the stage for the racism that is still felt today among ethnic groups in the United States. The foundations for discrimination are set into the history of America and are threaded into the very culture and fabric of American life.

Foundations of microeconomics: consumers and firms

In economics, externality is defined as any impact made on a party not directly involved in the economic transaction. Manufacturing at a local power plant that results in the emission of gases into the atmosphere imposes costs on society who bear the brunt of bad air pollution and subsequently have to invest in alternative methods to reduce air pollution. Even though citizens in the society have no benefit in the direct economics of the power plant, the resulting gas emissions is an externality that they need to deal with.
As a policy maker, mandating regulations on the power plant that forcibly reduce their emissions would be a top priority. It is unfair for a society as a whole to sacrifice health and personal finances when profits are being reaped by the power plant. The power plant should be forced to reduce emissions, with substantial fines for failing to meet requirements. Fines would be used to alleviate costs for the society in health-related problems and costs related to improving air quality.
Everyone in society would benefit from reduced air pollution and although the power plant would have to bear the costs, it would be beneficial in the long run for both the society and the firm. It would force innovation in green-technologies for the firm and raise environmental awareness. Emission reduction would be continually enforced until the community as a whole (power plant and the people’s affected) reach a carbon-neutral state. This would urge the community members to also help the power plant in their efforts to reduce emissions as well as motivate the power plant to be responsible to the community. Policy needs to involve both parties to be effective, holding both parties responsible to one another and encouraging one another to put forth the best efforts.
