It seldom has any long in-depth articles like Playboy, so you can pick it up anywhere and not get too absorbed. Here are some titles just to give you some examples of some of their articles. How to Fight a Duel, complete with history as well as the best ways to incite a challenge out of someone in the modern age, how to sneak into any sporting event, how to spot a ‘fake’ woman in a bar to avoid recreating an embarrassing scene from the “Crying Game”. Another article is How to sound smart about money which gives detailed terms to throw out about stocks, bonds and interest rates to impress the unenlightened.

Like many women magazines some articles are clearly only aimed at one sex. Both how to spot a nymphomaniac and how to score at a funeral are clearly only aimed at men but how to screw with a telemarketer can be considered good advice for either men or women. One article lists the top five countries that have more women than men and possible reasons why. It could be argued that this is not a gender specific article but after reading it it becomes clear that this is telling men where to travel if you want to improve your odds of finding a woman.

Every issue of Maxim includes reviews of the latest movies, music video games, the latest styles and trends plus interviews with celebrities. One magazine like this is Details, a magazine for the trendy male. Details and its its fashion pages are mindfully straightforward and clothes are captioned, posed and shot in the same model-please-stand-sit-there style, similar to the way Men’s Health does it. Yes, it is predictable and yes, it is routine. But the flip side is, it is uncomplicated and the target-market-magazine-reading Wall Street, straight men get it.Details is an interesting magazine that caters to men of various ages and lifestyles. The main group that Details aims to capture is the 17 to 35 year- old male but there are articles in each magazine that could be appealing to men of many different ages, mostly in the middle to upper income groups.The writing in this magazine is on the edge and very blunt.

It is common to find several four- letter words in many of the articles and while this doesn’t bother me at all, I know that some readers will consider it too raw, too edgy, and too explicit. Details writers have no problem telling it like it is, and this can be both good and bad depending on one’s perspective.Tired of reading magazines packed full of just ads and senseless gibberish? Then Details magazine is for you.

First of all, it is one of the least expensive magazines I have subscribed to in recent years. I like to subscribe to such magazines as Sports Illustrated, Rolling Stone, GQ, and a few others, but Details is the one that gets my attention.Of all the magazines I have subscribed to in the past, the top two would be Details and Rolling Stone. However, the difference between these two is that when I read Rolling Stone, I go for the pictures, and flip to musical articles that get my attention. I enjoy reading Rolling Stone, but when Details arrives at my house, I know immediately that almost an hour of my life is going to be consumed immediately by reading through the entire magazine.Almost everyone knows what I am talking about when I say that you just don’t normally read the ENTIRE magazine. Sure, there are a few people out there that are media freaks and WILL read every word, but its not the norm. We read the interesting articles and save the rest for really boring days, just in case.

With Details, even the small print articles, the polls, subscriber letters, etc., are exciting and interesting.The thing that I like about Details is the information that I always close the magazine with. Some would say this is useless information, and while I agree it won’t get me a pay raise or a merit of honor, I think it’s interesting to be able to tell something to my friends at work or my family that I know without a doubt they have never heard of. Things that make them say “MMMMM”.If you like Rolling Stone, you will love Details. If you like entertainment of all types, you will love Details. Give one magazine a chance to change the entire way you look at magazines.

Ask The ASK Magazine

Ask investigates the world with past and present inventors, artists, and thinkers, and
scientists. From the publishers of Click, Ask offers cartoons, contests, projects, Web
experiments, games, and puzzles for kids ages 7 to 10. Ask is an informative, high quality
magazine for children that engages them as readers and learners. Since each issue is devoted
to a particular theme, my students gain in-depth information about a variety of topics. They
are fascinated by the attractive format — which includes wonderful photographs,
illustrations, and graphic aids that are appropriate for young readers. My students have
eagerly written letters to the editor and entered the bi-monthly contests. I highly
recommend Ask as an excellent magazine for school libraries, classrooms, and homes.

Ask Magazine is designed to teach elementary age children about science using art and arts
and crafts. Each issue has a theme and that theme is adhered to fairly strongly throughout
(everything but a single page of short “how things work” articles at the front and a page of
scientific question and answer at the back fits the theme). Themes tend to be less general
than the themes in other children’s science magazines and often take a slightly different
angle than you might expect. Instead of an issue on the science of light, Ask published an
issue on darkness. Other issues take a “how x works” approach; one of my favorite issues
covers how our brain processes new information, or in simpler terms, how we learn. Each
issue also has a cartoon that fits the theme. Although technically containing the same
characters and part of an ongoing strip, I find strips tend to be independent and not linked
in any real way to previous or subsequent installments.

The artwork is somewhat dull and not terribly appealing, but some of the ideas and content
are quite clever and make me laugh. For example, the cartoon in the issue on cars featured
“grassoline” and showed a car that runs on grass. Despite the very real lack in the artwork,
this cartoon was very effective. Not only was it funny, but it illustrated some engineering
principles without getting technical and it also implied that alternate fuel methods were
under development without getting into politics or heavy issues.

Some of the cartoons are much lighter, though. The cartoon in the darkness issue showed some
of the creatures you might imagine lurking about if you’re afraid of the dark and the power
went out. It didn’t bring anything to the table other than a stab at entertainment (and, in
my opinion, it failed there too). Ask is an informative, high quality magazine for children
that engages them as readers and learners. Since each issue is devoted to a particular
theme, my students gain in-depth information about a variety of topics. They are fascinated
by the attractive format which includes wonderful photographs, illustrations, and graphic
aids that are appropriate for young readers.

My students have eagerly written letters to the editor and entered the bi-monthly contests.
I highly recommend Ask as an excellent magazine for school libraries, classrooms, and
homes.Like all of the magazines from the folks that bring us Cricket and Spider, this is an
attractive work, full of diverse types of stories and artwork.

I would recommend Elle over many other fashion magazines. It’s tasteful and doesn’t contain crude sexual insight, but is entertaining and semi-factual. Article subjects differ and are constantly of interest. Elle has a memorable article in every other issue including interesting fashion and beauty tips. Elle is for affluent successful young women desiring couture fashion, beauty and fitness advice. Editorials are well written and entertaining. Elle provides what you expect from a fashion magazine – and more – catering to the fashionable, smart, sophisticated, woman interested in more than just fashion.Elle unlike other magazines, does a great job at keeping things simple.

It boasts only four sections – On The Cover, Fashion, Features and Beauty and Fitness. A big thumbs up from me on this aspect. I hate it when a magazine creates 12 categories for things that can be lumped into a couple. If you’re a female between the ages of 16 and 40, then the advertisements might be of interest to you. Products include make-up (Clinique, Estee Lauder, L’Oreal, Maybelline); clothing (Ann Taylor, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger); jewelry (Swatch, Piaget, Fendi); and perfume (Giorgio Armani, Dior). Nothing original – I’m sure the same ads are appearing in all of the other fashion magazines.Discover everything you need to find the look you love. From cutting-edge runway trends to stylish steals and must-have accessories, ELLE Magazine helps you create your kind of chic. Every issue is full of expert tips and secrets on hair, skin, make-up, health and fitness to keep you glowing. Elle sits somewhere between Vogue, Allure, and Marie Claire, without Vogue’s coldness or narcissistic qualities, and Allure’s sometimes vapid and repetitive articles about make-up trends, and with articles that are a bit more intelligent at times than Marie Claire’s.

I like the fact that Elle also features an “Eco” or “Green” issue that supports and gives recognition to organic cosmetics, etc.To conclude my article i would have to say, is this brain surgery? No. Is this the best magazine ever published? No. But if you like female, fashion magazines that are thick on advertisements and have an article or two that appeal to you, pick Elle up, you won’t be disappointed.

Making Children Learn For The Past So Many Years

NG covers a huge range of interesting topics. I like the fact that the reader can choose how deep they want to dig into the magazine. Sometimes you just want a little brain candy, so you look at the pictures and maybe read the captions. Other times you want it all, so you read every word of an article about some obscure topic like “leaf-cutting ants of “Congo”. No matter how you decide to use it, you’re guaranteed to find something new and interesting.

National Geographic is possibly the most inspiring magazine I have ever read. I started reading NatGeo as a little kid and it really instilled a taste for adventure, science, and exotic locales/cultures in me. I have never lost that interest and always thought running NatGeo would be a blast. If you are curious, have kids or just love to look at beautiful pictures, I highly recommend getting a subscription to National Geographic.

I am such a fan of National Geographic magazine and I remember pouring over the National Geographic World magazine as a child. So, I had no hesitation when I received an offer for National Geographic Kids magazine. My five-year-old son loves learning about the world and will choose areas out of the encyclopedia so that we read about them together. As I filled out my order form, I envisioned spending rainy afternoons snuggled up close to my son while we read his new magazine.

Now I know National Geographic is considered a “science lite” magazine meaning that while the articles are not going to be found in your average scientific journal, the magazine does skirt issues relating to science, nature and the world in a way the average non-science-minded sort of person could easily understand. I really expected the children’s version of this magazine to do roughly the same, after all, I was given the promise that “NG Kids brings kids face-to-face with amazing animals, geographic adventures, incredible wonders of the deep, terrific technology and inspiring children all over the world.

If you dig far enough into the issue, you’ll find some appropriate articles for your children. My son was fascinated with several articles including one on earthquakes, the debate about whether cats or dogs are smarter (and we learn that both are smart in their own ways) and what happens when people encroach into mountain lion habitat. Ask any person why they subscribe to National Geographic and the first word out of their mouth is usually, “The photos.” Since the magazine is so well known for their photos, you’d expect the children’s magazine to carry some of the more fun photos. The children’s version does have some of the cuter photos but, again, the colorful, splashy advertisements on the opposing page often detract from the photos themselves.

I was clueless when it came to planning my wedding I have never been in one and have only been to two when I was much younger. This insert has helped a great deal along with the magazine. You can find everything you’re looking for from the planner right in the magazine. I never realized there were so many choices in choosing a wedding gown. Bridal Guide has shown me. It also helped me narrow down to a few styles I really like. Bridal Guide is full of advertisements. When I see a magazine with a lot of them I think agh I’m not going to like it, but this time it was exactly what I needed and it is great. This is a great guide for those who have no ideas and those who want to get ideas to get started. You will see beautiful gowns and great ideas for you to duplicate for your very own wedding. I like to say you are an individual and what you like is your taste. If you want some terrific ideas that are today look up this Magazine you can’t go wrong. This magazine is huge. It has several hundred pages full of pictures, ideas and advertisements for products or services for your wedding day and also for your wedding night. Shape Will Whip You Back Into Shape

Like almost every magazine out there, Shape has regular features that appear in every issue. These include Editor’s Letter and Hot Lines. The Editor’s Letter is always an enjoyable read, and the Hot Lines section is where you read what other readers of the magazine have to say about various topics. This section also usually has a specific question directed to the readers that you can answer via email or letter, and if they print your response you often get some sort of prize. For example, one issue offered a free Shape T-shirt for answering “What is your favorite, fast, no-cook recipe?”. I enjoy this type of thing in a magazine because it adds to the fun! Shape is for anyone that enjoys finding easy health-recipes, reading about the inner improvements and outer improvements and wants an easy workout.

My personal favorite part of Shape is reading the weight loss stories. These stories are about normal, everyday people (so far I have only seen women in these stories) who have lost weight. When I say normal and everyday, I mean they are not super tiny models. They are people you can relate to. These people have lost usually at least 20 lbs. While many others have lost much more than that. In these stories, we’re told many details about the person such as what they do for a living, how they got to the point of needing to lose weight and make their lifestyle healthier and then we’re told how they were successful in losing the weight and keeping it off.

The articles in this magazine are well-written, logically organized, and very helpful. An added bonus? They are also a pleasure to read. Article variety of topic is exceptional; topics range from various types of workouts to beauty and fashion advice to dietary suggestions and recipes. I consider this magazine to be an excellent investment in health and wellness. The articles are informative, I have found some great recipes to increase healthy eating for my family, and I have also found some great exercises to do while browsing through the magazine.

Shape magazine is colorful and well-designed. The organization of the magazine is very well-done, and I find this magazine very motivational. My teenage daughters enjoy reading it as much as I do, and getting them to concentrate on exercise and health is not always an easy task. Plus, it’s fun! What more can one ask from a magazine?

Shape is not about losing weight to simply become thin. It’s about making lifestyle changes to be the best person you can be. To do this you need to eat healthier, take care of your body, mind and soul and get some exercise. If you’re looking to make some lifestyle changes, I would recommend that you look into Shape magazine for help and encouragement. If they can help inspire me to get moving, they can help anyone!

Shape has a very strong focus on health. All the articles, no matter what their topic, are related to health. I like this emphasis. It educates and informs young women who may not be getting health information elsewhere. The magazine has practical, relevant nutrition and diet information for the way that most of their readers eat today. The healthy recipes are not time-consuming and are easy to prepare. For women on the go, there is lots of advice for making healthy restaurant choices and healthy meals-on-the-go ideas. There is also lots of suggestions for healthy snacks and treats.

In fact, Golf Digest enlists a number of PGA pros as playing editors including pretty every big name in golf (yes, that does include Tiger. You can usually count on Tiger’s face gracing at least a dozen pages of each issue, believe it or not). One of my favorite things that Golf Digest does is break down pro player’s swings frame by frame (whether it be Duval, Garcia, Lehman, or whoever) to catch their positions at each point in the swing. It’s extremely helpful (although often depressing) to see where the pros are at different points in their swing and compare it to your own swing.

The things that set Golf Digest apart from the competition are the numerous articles about learning and improving your game and the personal stories and interviews. Other golfing publications attempt to help you learn, but they often get too mechanical. Golf Digest shows you how to improve your game with tips from professionals, including some of the star- studded members of the golfing elite like Tiger Woods. Besides all the tips and tricks, Golf Digest also shows the personal side of the sport with interviews and more intimate stories about the many colorful personalities in the game. This personal dimension adds greatly to the magazine’s overall appeal, providing great reading material to complement the more instructional side of the magazine.

Advertisements cover about 55 percent of the pages in each issue of Golf Digest. Besides the obvious, like golf clubs, golf balls, and golf apparel, the advertising focuses on other things that people who play golf like to purchase and indulge in, like liquor, cars, credit cards, brokerage firms, and travel services. The ads are found throughout the magazine, but they don’t interfere with the enjoyment of each issue like they do in some magazines.

Golfing Digest may not be as great as a day spent on your favorite golf course, but it comes close. I consider it the best publication of its kind and I recommend it to anyone with an interest in the game. Golf Digest is indeed a magazine for any golfer out there, ranging from the die-hard weekender to the driving range fiend. At a reasonable price of subscription when compared to other sports magazines, Golf Digest simply offers a combination of great articles, pictures, and features for golfers handicapped scratch to infinity.

Discover the Brainiac Hidden Inside You

Discover is a full-color, monthly science magazine written for the average Joe. It covers all science fields from anthropology and linguistics to astronomy, paleontology, and medicine. Over the years there has been a predominance of paleontology and astronomy articles, but there is diversity in the magazine’s coverage. Each issue is fairly thin with about 80 pages, many with ads. The magazine’s writers present their information clearly. And they cover a broad range of subjects, shedding light on everything from who we are (biology) to who we were (anthropology), from where we’ve been (archaeology) to where we will be (astrophysics). The photography and diagrams are usually top notch. The photographs are crisp and bright and the historical facts are well laid out and easy to understand even for a twelve year old.

The magazine and its contents inspire you to learn and you will come away from reading an issue knowing things you might have not known otherwise. It is very good for anyone with any interest in fascinating sciences or technology, or anyone with teens in the house. It is a good way to get kids to learn and read. Discover writes articles that just about anybody can read. They are informative, accurate, interesting, and put into Layman’s terms. I have yet to get an issue that I didn’t read cover to cover and not enjoy. Each issue is packed with tons of picture and articles. Discover magazine has about twenty small articles on what new things scientists have found or invented. I love reading these because they are quick, to the point, and very interesting. The rest of the magazine usually has longer articles about space, medicine, geology, or just about anything else involved with science. And although the magazine is dedicated to chronicling what humans know, its writers are quick to point out the limits of our knowledge and to present theories that are at odds with the dominant thinking. This gives insight into the ideas that might become the next dominant ones.

Discover is good light reading for people interested in science who are not scientists. It is also a good magazine for expanding your interests. The wide variety of not-in-depth articles can lead you to discover new interests & topics you might wish to learn more about. Over the years, several articles in Discover have led to more in-depth reading in various areas I would not otherwise have been interested in, and expanding both your horizons & your knowledge base is always a positive thing. It has a great brain teaser section in the back, which I usually don’t have time to think over, but is always interesting. Another very good feature of Discover is the Brain Works and Brain Bogglers. Brain Works helps you to better understand your brain and why it does the things it does through simple activities. Brain Bogglers has riddles and puzzles for you to figure out. Discover is not the only science magazine but it is a welcome addition to National Geographic, Smithsonian and Popular Science. They are all excellent magazines but there is certainly room for excellence in searching the universe for science.
